Ongoing Professional Development

Mediators are expected to complete a minimum amount of training/professional development each year to maintain their accreditation. CRS offers a program throughout the year to assist mediators to upgrade their skills, through supervision sessions with experienced mediators, and through exploring subject matter on topics of current importance. Some examples in the recent past have been – mediation theory and practice today, workplace conferencing, family law mediation, domestic violence, solution-oriented questioning, power balancing in mediation, and ethics and codes of conduct.

Mediators can also upgrade their skills through participation in courses run by other organisations. CRS is willing to accept evidence of such involvement when assessing the ongoing professional development of mediators on its panel. Usually in December each year mediators are expected to undertake individually and in a group a reflection on their practice.
